- Did DJI fix everything with the newest DJI Fly App Update 1.13.9? NO! On a scale of 1 to 10, this fly app update is about a 9 for me. They seemed to address all the problems everyone was complaining about except for the one I was complaining about. Shocker...
Last week, we released the DJI Fly App Update 1.13.8 video for the Mini 2 (pro) and honestly, that update worked perfectly for the Mini 2. I had no problems whatsoever, BUT I wasn't able to update the DJI Mini 4 Pro because I simply couldn't find the update on the RC2 controller. I even swallowed my pride and called Nobbygreen asking him to walk me through the process of the update. Well, surprise! I know. I'm just as surprised as you are, but I was actually looking for the fly app update in all the right places with the RC2 controller, but it just simply wasn't popping up.
Well, the next day, I woke up and when I turned the RC2 controller on to check one last time, BOOM! Here comes the Fly App Update 1.13.9! Ok, I installed it with no problems so I was excited to see if one specific thing had been addressed. We have a Power Plus Pro battery (aftermarket) we used to be able to use with the Mini 4 Pro in the past, but when the 1.13.0 Fly App Update came out, that battery suddenly became a brick. Well, guess what. It's still a brick. Oh well. Let's take a flight and see what else has been addressed and "fixed".

lol yea man that was awesome. The day before I made this video, I was flying in the front yard at home and did that move where I went backwards and up (it’s called a dronie) but I went all the way up to 350 feet high and like 800 feet backwards. It looked really cool so I figured I’d try it for the test. I may continue that for a while. It’s definitely weird flying backwards so long. Lol
Good review of the update. I updated after having problems with the Waypoints and all is working good now. I'll have to meet up and fly with you in the winter as we stay just the other side of the 206 and love flying over the Intercostal. I haven't flown at that park but will definitely fly there this winter. I often fly at Green Road boat launch.

I love watching your videos. I especially like it when you screw things up, ha ha. Gives me permission to laugh at my own mistakes. What better way to learn! Do you have a favorite app to check before you fly? Weather, air space, restrictions…? I also bought the Pekrews case due to your review. I love it. Please keep making your wonderful videos so the rest of us can keep putting fun into flying!
Hahahaha. That’s hilarious. And I’d say it’s 100% true because it makes total sense. lol. I’m just at glad someone enjoys the videos and can laugh along with me. That Pekrews bag is awesome, ain’t it? I’m telling you I wasn’t expecting to like a backpack case so much but that sucker has helped me quite a bit. How about that usb cable? That’s crazy. I never in a million years would’ve thought of something like that in a backpack. lol. Oh, and I use Aie Data to check all my stuff like weather and air space. It covers all my basis and you can even get LAANC clearance with it.

lol. It’s always an experience for me to try and figure stuff out like that on the fly. Most times it doesn’t work out and I have to edit a bunch of stuff out of the video. Like this one. I cut out like 15 minutes of silence and me saying very confusing things. lol. I’m gonna figure out all those hyperlapse things eventually. And yes waypoints are awesome! Try doing an IMU calibration, even if one is not requested. See if that improves Dwight's precision landing.

Hi, i read somewhere that to get an accurate rth you have to do a auto take off from the screen not a manual with the sticks. Then go straight up to about 24ft.
Interesting. I get high landing precision after automatic takeoff and return RTH after weypoints :)

Regarding the precision landing, I’ve never had real problems with the Mini 4 pro unless there’s a good bit of wind that knocks him off course as soon as he lifts up off the pad. I very seldom do the auto take off but maybe I’ll add that to the list of things to try to fix this. The list is getting long! Haha. My bet is it’s more user error because I do make a lot of mistakes. lol. Thanks again for watching and God bless!
Enhanced Transmission is what DJI just added on their store (for minis and air 3 etc).
Its essentially a physical addon that gives 4G connectivity if your remote loses radio signal to the drone.
I mean theoretically it might be amazing, able to fly behind mountains and stuff, as long as the drone has range to a 4G tower.
Mine hasnt arrived yet so cant test it.
Oh cool I think I saw a couple video thumbnails about that and I didn’t know what it was so I never watched them. Lol. Maybe I need to click on them and see what it could do, eh? In the US we have the line of sight rule so we wouldn’t be able to take advantage of it probably but it definitely sounds intriguing. Our Mini 4 pro signal is always really good especially for the distances we can fly. Once it comes in definitely keep us in the loop on how you like it man. I’d be interested to hear how it does.

/edit/ BTW, he was so far off because he had 21 satellites when you set Home, then got up to 25, IF those are on the horizon, that will throw your position off.
Take off, then fly out like 100 feet and coming back. Align the shadow manually then Set Home.
lol I never did find that 1.13.8 thing. I guess it was being stealthy. lol. I’ve never heard of manually lining up the home point. That has me intrigued. I have a list of things already started to sort this out and this is definitely going on that list. Awesome idea man.

lol all that new stuff may be a one off because I don’t think I’ll remember it all to repeat it. Hahaha. Yea I got ahold of the battery people and they said they’d look into it. I haven’t heard back since. Maybe their company folded? I think you’re right about the calibration. I have a list of troubleshooting started and calibrations is close to the top. lol. We’ll see what happens next time, eh? Yea Dwight had a rough day for sure.

It was a pleasure to watch the video again, always a lot of fun, great. The deviation in the landing could be due to the satellite reflection from the roof of the house you are standing next to. If you were to move the drone further onto the grass you might be fine.

Mate, try bringing it back without touching the stick to speed up the return. I found on my “4” that it throws the precision landing out a bit. G’day from Australia.
Wow I never even thought about that. Out of all the suggestions, I think this one has the most merit. I bet it’s either this or it needs a calibration. Ok man this one is on the list of things to do. Thanks for the help and it’s awesome having someone from Australia on the team. God bless!

lol thanks, man. That precision landing is making me scratch my head but I’m sure we’ll get it worked out eventually. He’s usually dead on but he was off 3 times in a row. Really strange.
I've noticed with my drones that the precision landings work much better when you use the orange side of the landing pad. Maybe try a comparison between the 2 sides of the pad. Good tests, keep up the good work.

Enjoy your video even though I don’t have the Mini 4. Still have my trustee mini 2 Just did the update for mine seems to work OK on my mini 2. Be heading down your way to Florida first couple weeks of September. If you ever happen to be over that way toward Panama City give me a holler. Maybe we can fly, beautiful place over there. Maybe we could try the upside down flight test.

Hey Mr. Robert. Here is a suggestion for a better precision landing While taking off point the gimbal down at the landing pad. Go up 7 meters before flying your mission. I get great precision landings, but I haven't upgraded the software yet. Plus, it's okay to fly farther that 2000ft away from the home point. Live a little dude! Do some flying! Fly closer to A1 and do a 15 second hyper lapse. at 2 second intervals with the ocean in the background. Cheers, Brendan
Hahaha. Yea 1500 - 2000 feet is my limit nowadays. Regarding the precision landings, I also do go up the 7 meters to lock it in but I’ve never pulled the gimbal down as you suggested. I have a list of things to try now from suggestions to figure out this precision landing issue and this is definitely going on the list. Thanks so much for watching and for the advice, buddy. July 7th marks a year of me being a part 107 certified pilot (yeay...). Now, I also own an Air 3 and Mini4 Pro. I want to mention that it is a great addition to have a verse from the most popular book in the history of man at the end of your videos. No matter your faith, it gives us pause for thought. Hahaha. I’m glad the update was successful for both of us. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I’m satisfied. The precision landing was quite a bit off so I’m gonna do some calibrations and try again to see if we can get it right. There’s always something to work on isn’t there, lol

I sort of released this video a few days earlier than normal because I was afraid another update would come out before it was released. lol. I got nervous and had an impulse. Another great video, thanks much. Quick FYI, I do the updates on my mini 4 pro like a week or two after they come out incase a bug. My point though is that since day one 8 months ago and all the updates my compass never shook like yours and precision rth is usually dead on. I know others had the same issues as you with the compass and now I really didn't like how yours did not do well 3 times in a row on the precise rth. I'm thinking maybe it's a hardware or calibration issue with your m4p? P. S. I always hover after auto take off for about 10 seconds hoping to capture the precise rth and my will return dead on the spot 9 out of 10 under various conditions, sunny or darker days, pad no pad I land withing an inch. If mine landed 3ft put like yours I'd implode with my ocd 🤣
lol I know ocd can be a real problem. Fortunately I’m not a victim of that so it’s all good. I have a list of things to try to fix the precision landing thing and calibrations are staying on the list for sure. I never used to have problems with the landing before but lately it’s been an issue. Could be we’ve been traveling so much and the compass needs calibrated. It’s just not registering. lol. I notice that if I do both calibrations on my Mavic 3 Pro and Mini 4 Pro whether it asks or not every once in a while precision landing comes back. Love your vids!!
That’s awesome advice and thanks so much for watching. I normally don’t do calibrations until I get the “message” but it makes sense that a calibration could help in this case for sure. Dwight’s precision is usually a lot closer but then again we just got back from a trip to West Virginia so maybe he’s still on vacation mode. Hahaha
@@WeretheRoberts yeah, definitely do a calibration once a week. I find that makes it much easier for accuracy on a consistent basis. And, this is especially true when you go more than 15 miles away from where you may normally fly your drone.

This started out to be the most boring video that I have seen from you guys, then I realized I didn't press the play button as I stared at the same video frame for five seconds… Ha!
There was the part in the tutorial where you were trying to take it out of hyperlapse. Whenever I'm in hyperlapse or quick shot, I press the button that changes it from video to camera and that's the quickest way to get back into standard video mode without having to use the screen to choose the standard video mode ... unless you programmed that button to do something else
Hahahaha. Dude that’s hilarious! I don’t know if you remember that one video a while back I started off just staring at the camera and didn’t move for a few seconds. A lot of people said they thought the video was froze. lol.
That hyperlapse stuff is totally new to me but I’ll figure it out little by little. Thanks for the tip for sure. I edited out about 15 minutes of that flight due to dead air and smoky brain. Hahaha

Oh no!!!! I was hoping the Mini 4 pro would have a couple years to shine before they started working on the 5. I haven’t heard anything about the 5 pro so maybe the Costco thing is just a coincidence. Lol. If you hear anything concrete though definitely keep us in the loop please. lol that’s a really good question. I had to skip the 3 when it came out but I watched all the videos I could in hopes my wife would give me the go ahead. It never happened. lol. But I haven’t seen any 3 videos in a while either. Maybe someone should bring the 3 back. We do a lot of mini 2 videos too and people still watch them so new mini 3 videos would probably do really well.

What is the max temperature can you fly the DJI min 4 Pro in? It has been getting anywhere from 104Fahrenheit to 107, One day it got to112
I fly in the desert of Arizona. When over 104 or so do not try hyper lapse. I had mine overheat and it force landed over a pond. I hit the up stick and was able to fight it to the bank. I basically don’t fly anymore when it’s over 105 so early mornings and night time is all I do this time of year.

I know this sounds dumb, but is it possible it intentionally avoids te pad because its blue and triggers water avoidance?
lol not dumb at all, brother. I don’t know if that would be a thing or not but logically thinking it could be part of it, eh? I can say I’ve not had problems with the precision landing (usually) when the orange side is up so this will definitely be something to test to get this worked out. Thanks for the tip!
Ok thank you for the test. I checked the error problem with v. 1.13.8, i.e. flight after weypoints. For DJI FLi 1.13.9 with RC N2 for Android (Samsung Tab9 tablet) there are terribly thick route lines :( What is your view of the weypoints flight plan?

Good deal and thanks for the info again, brother. I enjoy doing waypoints and am always blown away with how easy they are to use and how good the results are. We did a waypoint comparison test a while back and flew the same mission twice in a row. The results were pretty good but one flight was a hair lower than the other. BUT, it was not enough to make me say it sucked. lol.

That’s a really good idea. I’ll add that to the list for sure. Something is definitely off with him but it’s not something that’ll cause him to get lost which is good. At least for now. Haha
